Trip to Toronto for University Interview

Last week, I flew to Toronto for an interview at the University of Waterloo's Architectural program. I arrived at Toronto three days earlier so that I could adjust to the 12 hour time difference. During these three days, I also decided to sketch around downtown and look around the environment that I may study in.

Flight from Hong Kong to Toronto

I arrived during the night and the next morning was International Sketchcrawl 43. I decided to join the Toronto sketchers in the financial district. It was great fun sketching with them. I got to meet with a lot of people and get to know the city much more than if I had remained alone during the trip. I believe it is also because of my understanding of the city through sketching that got me accepted to my first choice university, at UofW. The remaining days I spent with my relatives over in Markham as well as in Toronto.

Hong Kong Church Sketch

Today as I was flipping through my old sketches, I found an old sketch I haven't finished so I went back to the location on my street to continue the sketch. This was particularly challenging since the perspective from the first day was wrong and I had to work along with it.

Sketching Castle Road Hong Kong

This is a more recent one I did of a construction site. I loved it because of the fact that it looked like a golden tower. I tried to reflect this in the sketch. This sketch was hard because in the end, it started raining which explains the uneveness of the sky.

Sketching YMAC HQ Hong Kong

This is my second urban sketch. I tried to use more of the ink this time and keep it more tidy compared to the relatively more sketchy design last time. This is the YMCA HQ in Hong Kong.

My first urban sketching

Just started this website so I will post what I have done in the past first. The dates would be on each drawing. This was done on Win Lee Street in Hong Kong for 1.5 hours. It was a very nice warm day. Many tourist walked past me and it was an interesting experience urban sketching!
